Scroll down to section J.6
Also sections J.3 through J.6 are smaller solving equation reviews. They may be a good spot to start before J.6
This topic is another side topic, which after being taught is combined into solving even larger equations. In an equation generally combining like terms happens after distributive property (if it is present). Students also seem to get these rules confused with distributive property since they are taught near each other. But you must remember distributive property deals with multiplication and combining like terms deals with adding.
The distributive property is very simple to perform. It is a side rule within Algebra that will be combined within larger solving equation problems. It is taught on its own first, to show the simplicity of it, before being introduced within an equation.
These four operations are the foundation for Algebra. Any student who cannot solve them correctly 95-100% of the time will struggle with any other Algebra content as these operations are embedded in every single Algebra problem. If you need it please spend a lot of time in this section.

IXL offers many practice problems for:
Addition and subtraction of integers scroll down to section I.4 through I.10
Multiplication scroll down to sections k.11 and k.12
Division scroll down to L.7 and L.8
Below are a few websites where students can practice solving equations. I linked to only free sites to allow students the chance to complete as much practice as they need.

For the IXL link above scroll down to the section titled solving equations. It has one step, two step, and advanced equation sections. It also has content for every topic there and is a great site to save for later in the year.
Solving equations is one of the foundation topics for any Algebra content. It is very important to be able to accurately solve any style problem. Below are review videos of the basic equations.
Here are some video links on various solving equation problems:
Welcome with the switch to the common core curriculum no book is capable of supporting it. This blog is meant to be a tool to help you or your child with math, when you are struggling.I will be posting videos and websites to aid you in learning this year. These resources are meant to help you while completing your homework or studying. They are also meant to be in addition to what is done in the classroom.
Each blog post represents information for a different math topic. This is to help you find what you need faster. Most of the title topics match the title given during class. If the students write down the titles during class then this blog will be easy to navigate. These topics do represent what is taught during the school year and are a part of the designated curriculum. It will take time to populate the website with all the content needed. If you are struggling to find a topic feel free to email and I can assist you.
If you would like to know more about Mr. Battisti go to profile and check out the webpage.
